A meaningful dental awareness study class focused on elder oral health care was successfully conducted on 13-02-2026 at the Public Library in Vadakadathukavu, near Adoor, Pathanamthitta. The session was led by Dr. Krishnapriya CS from Prana Dental Clinic and benefited around 30 senior participants from the local community.

This educational program aimed to improve awareness about dental hygiene for elders, clarify common misconceptions, and answer frequently asked questions related to age-related dental problems.

Focus on Dental Care for Elders

As people age, dental needs change significantly. The study class highlighted the importance of specialized oral care routines for senior citizens, including:

  • Proper brushing and flossing techniques for sensitive gums

  • Denture care and maintenance tips

  • Managing dry mouth and gum recession

  • Early signs of tooth decay and gum disease

  • Importance of regular dental checkups after 60

  • Nutrition tips for stronger teeth and gums

Dr. Krishnapriya CS explained how untreated dental issues can affect overall health, including digestion, heart health, and diabetes management — topics that drew strong interest from attendees.

Myth-Busting and Interactive Q&A

One of the most appreciated parts of the session was the myth-busting discussion on common dental beliefs among elders. Several widespread misunderstandings were clarified, such as:

  • Tooth loss is not a “natural” and unavoidable part of aging

  • Dentures do not eliminate the need for oral hygiene

  • Gum bleeding is not normal and should not be ignored

  • Dental treatments are safe and effective for senior citizens

Participants actively engaged in a Q&A session, where personal concerns and long-standing doubts about dental treatments were addressed in simple, practical language.

Strong Community Participation

The program, organized by the Vadakadathukavu Public Library near Adoor in Pathanamthitta district, saw participation from about 30 senior citizens, making it a productive and community-centered health awareness initiative.

Attendees appreciated the clear explanations, preventive care guidance, and friendly interaction style of the doctor. Many participants expressed interest in attending more such health education programs in the future.

Importance of Local Dental Awareness Programs

Community-based dental awareness classes like this play a crucial role in:

  • Promoting preventive dental care

  • Reducing fear about dental treatments

  • Encouraging early diagnosis

  • Improving quality of life for elders

  • Supporting healthier aging through better oral hygiene

Prana Dental Clinic continues to take active steps in community outreach and preventive dental education across the Adoor–Pathanamthitta region through such initiatives.
